Duties and Responsibilities: Oncology is a branch of
medicine that deals with the study, treatment, diagnosis and prevention of
cancer.

Education: To qualify for board certification as an oncologist,
physicians must complete a residency program or fellowship in medical oncology.
The residency programs train physicians in the management of patients with
cancer. Programs include coursework in radiation and cancer biology, training
in cancer research and scientific conferences in oncology. Oncology residents
learn to diagnose and develop treatment plans for cancer patients. The
residency program must be at least two years to qualify for certification in oncology.
